One of the greatest political mysteries in SG50...

Why?

1. Age of terror has ended after Mar 2015. Many exiles/AWOLs could be crawling back soon.

2. He was the "Hatchet Man" who was let go by someone. (c.f. his alleged 'involvement' in the 'fabricated' PIEU riots / TWP's arrest and exile to London subsequently) *This is the most intriguing part*

3. He comes back to spill the beans on who actually pocketed the $80k in 1979. He told ST the monies didn't go into his account.

4. He wants to celebrate SG50, collect his SG50 Funpack, CHAS card and enjoy other pioneer gen package perks?

5. His spouse's getting old and can't visit him as often in BKK. He misses his children and grandchildren.

6. He feels bad for letting down the old man who 'put' him in the labour chief seat i.e. his late party sec-gen. (but today's media reported it was Nathan who recommended him to the union).

7. He believes his sentence will be light as he is > 80yo.

8. He wants closure and shut opp MPs up by showing up before GE2016. WP has been relentless in accusing the PAP for covering this up:

a. 1998 Parliament: “Whether the search for Mr Phey has been abandoned” – J B Jeyaretnam (he was then NCMP after Cheng San GRC emerged as the biggest loser in GE 1997) and Ho Peng Kee

b. 1989: Taxpayers’ monies spent on finding Phey – Lee Siew-Choh (then NCMP after WP lost Eunos GRC in GE 1988) and Prof Jayakumar

c. 1986: “If the police have given up all hope of finding Mr Phey Yew Kok” – Jeyaretnam (as WP MP for Anson) and Lee Boon Yang

d. Nearly all WP rallies will bring up his name (and Teh Cheang Wan's) to shame PAP. Most recent mention was by Pritam Singh (MP for Aljunied GRC) in GE 2011.

9. He watched the CPIB documentary on CNA (broadcast during the National Mourning period in Mar 2015) in BKK about his CBT charges and felt very guilty.
