Paris shootings, explosions leave at least 120 dead

PARIS: At least 120 people were killed in a series of terror attacks in Paris on Friday (Nov 13) according to a provisional total, a source close to the investigation said.

Police said around 100 people were killed at the Bataclan music venue in eastern Paris alone, with reports saying armed attackers shot dead people attending a rock concert one by one before police stormed the building.

One witness said an attacker had earlier yelled "Allahu akbar" ("God is greatest") and fired into the crowd at the concert given by US rock band Eagles of Death Metal

It was one of a series of attacks at seven locations across Paris in an unprecedented night of carnage in the French capital that is still recovering from militant attacks in January.......

"It is not the first time innocent civilians have been massacred like this in this troubled world. But each time it happens we again feel appalled and outraged beyond words," says Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

......

"Condolences to our French friends over the loss of so many lives. We wish them courage and steadfastness as they deal with the situation ... It's important that our social and psychological defence remains strong, and that we are all ready to withstand and recover from any attack which may occur, and remain united and strong," .... To kill or encourage others to kill innocents in the name of the divine has to be the greatest sin and shame one can bring to his/her faith.

My heart bleeds for the unfortunate souls who were killed or injured on this terrible day.

My family will be going to Europe including Paris this Dec. Do you think it is safe to visit Europe now? Thinking of cancelling the tour package. In a dilemma now.

IMHO, terror attacks can happen in any major cities, not just Europe. I do believe that Singapore is not spare from this threat, though relatively lower risk due to our strong & vigilant home defense team, customs and our ban of arms.

no city or country is spared from terror attacks.
bali, London, paris have been hit. we have to be more vigilant of our surroundings especially in crowded places. the minds of the extremists are hard to fathom.

Despite measures, crooks can and will find loopholes to penetrate. The main purpose includes create fear & let blood flows
