Bad Parenting Behaviors

Postby happypapa » Tue Feb 23, 2016 4:39 pm

I want to open a topic which I think all parents here can really relate to. It is about parenting behaviors that we thought are good for our children but if you actually think about it, those will not help them become responsible and strong people when they grow up.

Among the list here http://kidsakit.com/parenting-behaviors-that-will-not-benefit-your-child/ I am guilty of risk-proofing my son and doing all around the house together with my wife. We do not assign a chore for him.

I agree also. Too much care and concern will make your children spoilt. Worst when your child go army. Then he will really know what is tough.
So risk-proofing is actually bad!

"We cater to our children with help too quickly." We have to stop rescuing them all the time but admit it, we cannot stop this old habits because it melts our hearts whenever we see our kids cry

No. If the kids cry your blood should boil. Problem solved.

My kids always like to volunteer to cut fruits for us. Then one day the younger one had a cut on the finger which is a bit deep and there was quite a bit of blood. The cries were like a knife thru my heart and I literally jumped out of the bed upon hearing the screaming.

Guess it's a good experience for them to learn to be more careful and also pick up the correct way to handle a knife. But it was a bad experience for us as parents. The wound is on their body and the tears on their face, but our heart bleeds the most.

kids CANNOT be spoiled.
parents have to be united when it comes to discipline...if one is a discipline master but the other is 'mummy/daddy hug hug'. gone case.
