What is wrong with our gov? Carry out mandatory batch testing of all residents and employees of all blocks within a 1km radius. Don't just trace the virus. Try to get ahead of it. Learn something from China for crying out loud.
aren't that what they are doing at Bukit Merah View and reveal a large cluster :?

as of 14Jun

Fully vaccinated 1,990,940 or about 34.9%
At least 1 dose 2,700,446 or about 47.3%
7 June total = 4,396,164 doses administered.
14 June = 4,691,386

So in 7 days, our VCs administered 295,222.

I've been watching Japan's numbers too. A week ago, they jabbed 21 million arms. Now it's more than 26 million.

I don't know why Singapore is not getting larger shipments like other bigger countries. Didn't we order very very early? Like last April we already started touching base with the founders and scientists of pharma co? We even placed investments/bets earlier than any other Asian nations before their Phase 1 trials started? Moreover, they claimed we even have a former scholar who knows the Moderna top guys?

Why aren't BNT and Moderna sending us our vaccines in millions, since OYK said the estimated cargo movement for vaccines is about 65,000 tonnes worldwide but local handler Sats dealt with more than 300,000 tonnes of temperature-controlled shipment in the last year alone. Given that we have the capacity, the plants should send the vaccines here in bulk, rather than in 6-digits.

Too slow...too slow...every time I watch the international news, I see the Europeans sipping espresso along the sidewalks, watching EURO2021; New Yorkers celebrating their 70% target with fireworks at Central Park; Californian families visiting Disneyland; and Israelis attending rallies, I get so impatient and envious at the same time. :frustrated:

Mandatory testing for all within 1km also not enough. DH’s friend stays in Jurong, went to Bukit Merah to dabao a few times, did not check-in, and neither is he willing to go for the free swab.
I have never “checked-in” before hawker centres when dabao.

I wonder if it is mandatory for all the delivery drivers (who probably also cross over all over the island to deliver foodstuffs) as well as all the grab food guys who have been there before were tested.

Quite a handful of the stall vendors has been vaccinated. So what we learnt from this cluster is, vaccination does not seem to stop the transmissions. So perhaps, even if majority of us is vaccinated, we still have to wear masks and comply with safe distancing measures.

Earlier, I thought this would only happen in aircon foodcourt. Didn’t expect it to happen in open-air environment. Please also look into how these customers who dabao food can also kena Covid from hawker centres.

Actually, if the bigger-picture point of vaccination is to get the vast majority of the population less at risk of needing oxygen/ICU support, aka minimize the chance of overloading our ICUs, then why not come right out and say it, plain & simple?

If I were presented with this national reason, I’d be willing to accept this national duty, even for faster opening up the economy etc.

At the very least, I’d do it for self (lessen my own chance of death from Covid). Maybe do it for country.

But don’t try to bluff me that vaccination is to protect others or to prevent catching Covid or to prevent spreading Covid.

With the current variant(s), can we afford to be maskless? Better dont ba..So far my understanding on vaccination is that it can still spread, we can still be carrier, just that if got a heavier dose (this one I myseld add) of virus, our damage may not be as serious as compared to without jab.

I think the reason why other countries can go maskless once vaccinated is because they are considered “bulletproof” once vaccinated. Or at least, they won’t fall seriously ill and overburden their healthcare system like previously (before vaccination).

So I’m not sure why SG is taking a different approach. Is it because small country? I don’t know.

The virus has obviously mutated; it is not the same as the original in terms of transmission and severity of symptoms. Vaccination does not stop transmission, but most people do not end up on oxygen or in ICU. My view is that once we have a higher rate of vaccination, we should just get used to the idea that it's all around. Perhaps we will still need to wear masks when interacting with others, but I hope that businesses, offices and schools can open again. Occasional localised lockdowns for a few days to contain bigger outbreaks may be necessary now and again, but I don't think the whole nation needs to stay at home if most people are vaccinated and cases are generally not serious.

If the government's reasoning is "the vast majority of the country need to vaccinate so as to reduced loads on our hospital system (i.e. need hospitalisation and ICU)", then there will be more pressure on the government to "assume the full risk of vaccination" since the benefits of vaccination is largely accrued to the society (i.e. can open up the country for business, society benefits).

By cleverly "framing it as vaccinate to protect others or prevent transmission", they changed the main beneficiency of vaccination to "yourself (i.e. protect your love ones and friends)". Since the benefits are "private", there is no reason for government to "assume the full risk from vaccination". But then the government's narrative becomes inconsistent when worldwide data showed vaccinated do get infected and are just as capable of spreading.

Next year, there could be a new African variant. There was this HIV patient carrying 32 types of mutated Covid-19 viruses. It’s a matter of time before a new variant lands on our shores.

We are hopeful but we can’t be 100% sure that vaccinated persons do not need hospitalization for next year’s new double/triple mutated variant, whatever you call it.

Europe and USA have yet to experience the Delta variant whereas UK having experienced the Delta variant is extending their lockdown.

JAKARTA: More than 350 Indonesian doctors have contracted COVID-19 despite being vaccinated with Sinovac and dozens have been hospitalised, officials said, as concerns rise about the efficacy of some vaccines against more virulent virus strains.

Most of the doctors were asymptomatic and self-isolating at home, said Badai Ismoyo, head of the Kudus district health office in Central Java, but dozens were in hospital with high fevers and declining oxygen saturation levels.
