They will have more goodwill from man in the street if they can just say "No" because oil price dropped and buses paid by govt.

I will be happy to receive news of fare increase next time when situation has changed.

Maintaining a track record of fare increase is not a good track record.

Yes, the notion not properly communicated. Commuters see the word "hike", JUMP straight away, complain straight away...ha.

Erh, this bus funding suggestion came from the Workers' Party methinks. :skeptical:

I am concerned about accountability and transparency. There is a serious conflict of interests here. Our government partially owns the transport companies and they are also the regulators.

Agree. Public goods should be managed in the "public way". Privatise it and then government still has to provide funding....what a rojak situation we are in now.

LHH...wherefore art thou?!

Is that why they later decided to fund the buses (with public funds) for those "private" PTOs? :scratchhead:

Partial credit goes to WP who came up with the nationalisation of public transport proposal... :nailbite: :siam:

The Public Transport Council (PTC) decided to grant the fare adjustment after taking into account affordability of fares and applications submitted by the two operators, the council said today (Jan 21) as it announced the conclusion of the 2014 Fare Review Exercise.

Both operators had applied for a 2.8 per cent adjustment, citing their loss-making businesses and escalating operational costs, partly due to staff costs.

Oil price fall but our fares increase.

Oil price goes up, they tell you costs went up... we have to increase price.
Oil price goes down, they tell you oh the oil price is not the sole factor.... we have to increase price.

Not only in transport...

When economy does well, they claim high pay plus high bonuses because they have "done well"

When economy is no good, they need high pay high bonuses to improve it

And on top of that, no one else is gooder than them to do the job.
