Introduction to Music for 5.5 yr old

Postby Paulyn » Wed May 25, 2011 11:07 am

My boy is interested in the various instruments that make music and I've tried asking various schools.

Yamaha - the junior music course says no as he is overage by 1 mth. Their electone classes do not fit my schedule.

Music for Young Children - Visiting them later to find out but seems ex.

Cristofori - Was told they are v exam based and will rush to ensure you pass exam.

I just wanted something fun and relaxing for my kid. I dun even nd him to say I want to learn piano at the end of the lessons.

Pls advise on right place to go. He is only avail on Sun PMs.

I personally think Music for Young Children is what you're looking for. Private teachers are out as you intend to "explore various instruments". Another place you can try is Staccato at Horse City (near the old Turf Club).

Paulyn, I agree about Music for Young Children.

Expensive, but my gal enjoy it very much. Though as parents we might find it too late (eg, they teach one note each week but this is 3 year old syllabus). They also have simple instruments (bells, tick tock, triangle) which they will let the kids play (to pre recorded music) according to beats.

Yamaha junior course is fun (whether relaxing or not depends on the kid). But it is playing on electone (not various instruments). Try calling other branches ... I am surprised they are so strict with "1 mth".

Tks all. For MYC I'm concerned abt the daily practice required too. May be too tedious for my hyperactive boy. And lazy mummy.

hi,

you may try Edvox Music school.
website:- http://www.edvox.com/

at 5 yrs old, during lessons, children get to practise learning and playing both musical instruments - keyboard and violin. The school provides you keyboard and violin to bring home, practise at home.

later when the child turn 6 yrs old, he can choose which musical instrument of preferance to specialise in.

school fees reasonable - learning both keyboard and violin.

paulyn, I agree sometimes its very tiring to make the kid do MYC 'homework' everyday. But the peer 'competition' and the encouragement from teacher seems to be help most of the time.
