so do they just practice the exam pieces for every lesson, or do they play other songs from other books as well?

For the purpose of exam, only from the exam pieces. But it can be very boring just to play exam pieces, so usually teachers would incorporate in other pieces too of the same difficulties.

Need to play more than just the exam pieces. Sight reading plays an important part too, so exposing kids to pieces other than those in the exam will help improve their sight reading. Also comes in handy when explaining/teaching the kid aural. And as mentioned, the kid will get bored if he/she plays only 3 pieces day in day out.

DS1 will b taking grade 2 exam in July. As our preference is for him to enjoy music, so other than exam syllabus, his teacher goes thru Lina Ng's Piano Lessons Made Easy Bk 1-3 w him progressively & also other songs like Fur Elise, U Raise me Up (for Fathers' Day), It's a small world (Children's Day), 朋友 (year-end) etc. DS1 also revisits his Yamaha JMC coursebks & play those songs that they used to sing only the melody then. NLB has some beautifully illustrated music books under its children's reference section too. Plenty of children's & folk songs.

Hi, I'm urgently looking for the ABRSM Speicmen Aural Tests book for my child's coming March exam. Yamaha does not have anymore stock and Cristophori don't sell it. Does anyone knows and care to share? Or is there any other books with CD that train on the aural part?

Thanks,
Anxious mummy :?:

Thank you so much Sharon and MMM. I've called both shops but SEE LIAN does not have any more stock. Luckily Renner still have.

So Sharon, is your child going for this March practical exam?
