Learn Piano in 5 Hours: is this possible?

Postby karenmok » Sat Feb 23, 2013 1:21 am

One of the music schools here is promoting a 5 hr package (10 lessons of 30 min each) stating that the child will get reasonably adept in playing the piano.
Is this realistic, or even possible? Everyone starts somewhere but is this worth a try?
Thanks, Karen

I think it depends on the child and home support, though what is considered "relatively adept" is subjective. It is possible to learn to play a few simple tunes and pick up some basics within 10 sessions with a teacher guiding and home reinforcement. Obviously it will work better for the child with a piano or a keyboard at home.

This is more like "taster" sessions. Can grasp a general feel of the piano, play a few simple tunes, probably based on 5-finger method.
