Yoga: Is Relaxation A Waste Of Time? Part 1

Whether you’re a working adult, mother with kids or a student, you are constantly pressed for time. It is a mad race to accomplish as many tasks within the day. So much to do yet so little time! Have you ever sacrificed that few precious minutes of relaxation just to squeeze in another task?

Stress causes anxiety and tension. Our breathing becomes shallow and tight. The lungs lack oxygen. It can potentially lead to burn-out and other long-term health problems as the cells in the body, blood, and brain are deprived of quality oxygen for the body to function optimally. Young children are no exception too.

Breathing and relaxation goes hand-in-hand.The next time you feel tired at work or studies, do this! Step away from what you are doing for 15 minutes, do simple stretches with breathing to loosen up, and end with Alternate Nostril Breathing. These moves can be done in between work, after a rigorous exercise or just before you go to sleep.

Autogenic Relaxation is most effective after yoga stretches (asanas). In essence, this form of relaxation is about “tensing and relaxing” every part of your body in a systematic way. Find out more ways to relax through deep breathing. It's so easy, even kids can do it!
