What it takes to be silent and listen to Kids?

Just a while ago I was reviewing what Oprah had mentioned on whether we are truly listening to what our children are saying...

Are teachers, grandparents, aunts and uncles, parents listening?

Do you listen to your child's worries, problems, complains?

I try to.

For my kids

The voiced out worries, problems, complains - they are very few.
But I try to hear - the voice behind their words,
the hurt behind their defiance,
the fear behind their dont-care attitude,
and the worry disguised as nonchalance.

Sometimes it takes a while to get it,
maybe there are times i didnt get it,
but i do keep trying.

Hi Sun,

I like your expression... the fear behind their dont-care attitude,
and the worry disguised as nonchalance... How true is that. I just feel at times that with no time, there are many times where I fail to hear my kid out... How can I change this and how can I see my child's needs as important when my work is way above my head?

Love to hear your thoughts Sun and anyone else... how to I do it?
(ps: taken note I shall post this to chit chat... seems like gd idea as its already on working with the child i guess?)

Good day!
