Kids who wake up crying in the night

Postby markfch » Mon Oct 03, 2011 12:14 pm

Does anyone here have kids who wake up in the night crying? This morning ds woke up crying and said 'I feel very troubled.' This reply really freaked me, certainly not what a typical P1 boy - with good family support - should feel.

Couldn't tell me why he's troubled when I probed. I know that ds sometimes thinks a lot, but he was perfectly alright during the night, and looks alright this morning.

Hope it's just a nightmare. Anyone got similar experience to share, please?

markfch,
you should find time to talk to him.
last year or maybe 2 years back when ds1 was in P1, on and off, he also felt 'troubled'. i would consider that our family is one that provides good support too, but how the kid feels may be different. on one occasion after talking to him, realised that he was worried about his future :faint: (he admitted being scared of the dark and worried what lies for him ahead in the future if he continues to harbour his fear).

yup. sometimes they think more than we realise. ds1 also said he was worried bout his future when he was in preschool. we reassured him that he didn't need to decide about such things at his age, that we will guide him when the time arrives. ds2 also worried for a while about not having money to feed his children next time, haha, again had to reassure him before he relaxed.

a few months ago, DS sat on his bed in the middle of the night... i didnt realised that till he accidentally knocked down the clock beside him & that woke me up..

when i asked hw long he's been sitting there & why he's sitting there & nt sleeping... he told me he cant sleep & he was thinking abt something... i asked what but he cldnt reply...

DS not even in P1... this yr only in K2..

DH can jokingly tell me he's (DS) thinking abt his gf... :spank:

luckily this incident did not happen again... :xedfingers:

Thanks for the sharing, folks. Glad to hear that I'm not alone facing this issue.

Just chatted with ds. Confirmed that he's definition of 'troubled' was that he caught a cold - we sleep with the air-con on all the time - and got a headache. Nothing emotional which will surely be more severe to remedy. Phew!

Like what the other forummers are saying, perhaps the best soln is go talk with your child who's crying during the night. I talked to my ds and found out the source of the distress. Good luck.
