24hr-mum, you may be interested in this book. 男孩放养,nu孩贵养. Sorry, nu is supposed to refer to "girl" but it is not coming up.

There are differences. You can buy James Dobson's books "bringing up boys" and "bringing up girls".

Their levels of maturity and developmental milestones are different. Learning styles are also different.

Hi Janet, the author means bringing up girls to be gracious, nurturing, affirmative etc while boys to be able to shoulder responsibility, hence got to let go early so that they learn to be independent. The author is an educator in China and the contents of the book needs to be appreciated against the backdrop of a different culture. However, I find it useful (for myself) cos there are certain Asian values and cultures which I would like to pass on to my children. As part of my learning process, I read parenting books by other races and try to adopt the best practices.
