If it's the teacher's idea of being "funny' then it certainly falls flat! The teacher being in a position to guide and encourage, must be aware that comments / feedback have to be constructive, so that it can be received in the right light and any shortfalls be worked upon. I can't think on what basis such a comment can ever be excused!

Talk to the teacher first, ask and find out why.
If happen again tell to the Principal.
If still happen inform MOE.
If still happen again change school.
