SINGAPORE : Students no longer need to lug assessment books around anymore, thanks to a new tablet application called Go-easel.
It stands for "Go e-Assessments and e-Learning".
It is the first tablet application to provide access to over 100 assessment books on Apple iPad and Android-based tablets.
It comes with auto-marking, model answers and score analysis to help parents monitor their children's performance more effectively.
For students, it means they can work on the move.
The application, which was unveiled on Friday by Popular Holdings when it opened its BookFest, can be downloaded free at the Apple App store or at www.go-easel.com for Android users.
Chairman of Popular Holdings, Chou Cheng Ngok, said Go-easel is in line with the education system's move towards more e-learning.
He said: "Ultimately, they want to transform the printed books into multimedia; in time to come, as they say, the emphasis will be on the tablet. Students, when you read the book from the print media, it is very flat, but if you use this multimedia, the most valuable part is it becomes interactive."
SingTel and Popular have formed a partnership to bring Go-easel into SingTel's e-book service Skoob by January next year.
Mr Chou, along with MediaCorp's CEO Shaun Seow, also launched three cookbooks based on popular food and travel shows aired on MediaCorp channels.
This is the sixth year that Popular is co-publishing books with MediaCorp.
The BookFest is being held at Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre's Halls 601-603 until November 27.
