Improve the handwriting

Postby nkthen » Wed Jul 04, 2012 9:27 pm

My boys (P1 & P5) handwriting are terrible. My girl's ok (P1). I have tried ways to improve my P5 boy's handwriting but no avail.

Do you have any ways or ideas that can help them improve their handwriting?

Do you think getting them to attend calligraphy class will help?

Mine also, I made them redo if their writing was too bad when they were younger. Now still messy but at least legible.

Better to find out the reason for poor handwriting. Wrong or poor grip? Tense muscles - back, shoulder, arms, fingers, etc? Eye-hand co-ordination? Poor posture?

Once you tackle the root cause, it'll be easier to improve, and less frustrating for the child as well.

I recommend Penny Gardner's e-book Italics - Beautiful Handwriting for Children, or the book called Write Now - The Complete Program for Better Handwriting by Barbara Getty and Inga Dubay (available at the library).
