Suspension by school

Postby CluelessMa » Wed May 22, 2013 10:28 pm

What happens when child is suspended by school? Will MOE record the suspension? Will it affect child's survival in SG? Would the school need to do investigation and give report to parents before suspending child? Is it possible for DS to get suspension if violent attack is due to retaliation?

Yes suspension is a very serious matter, schools do not go around suspending children.
The parent must first recognise there is a problem with the child AND the immediate family, and not the act that lead to the suspension.
Worrying about records is the last thing the parent or guardian should do.

It won't affect his future, but you need to clarify the reason for and purpose of the suspension. Generally, I find suspension to be counter-productive, and should only be used on students who are causing a lot of trouble at school.

yes suspension is allow in Primary schools.
but teachers and Principal always try their best to keep children in schools, and only do this as the last draw, normally after numerous warning to the "Parents", most of the time a problem child is just a by-product of problem family.
If only schools are allowed to give some parents fine and/or suspension, sigh...

from most cases I know, schools will only give suspension so that the rest of the class and other children can continue to have a peaceful learning environment, some children from problem families are so destructive that they pose a danger to others and themselves.

You said violent attack is due to retaliation which I take it that the other party is injured and need medical attention.

Whatever the reason is for the attack, you throw the first punch, you get the stick.

A suspension is definitely better than being caned and expulsion from school.

It is a school level matter, not a ministry level matter.

If you feel comfortable, do elaborate on what actually happened and if this is a one off or part of a recurring pattern.

The autistic boy was stopped by school leader as deemed to be running at the hard court when boy do not think so and did not stop. School leader pulled the boy's shirt and continued doing so despite being asked to stop by boy. Another boy following the school leader grab the boy's hand. Boy struggled and kicked. The school leader was injured. Boy is given suspension. Account given by boy. School send letter to inform boy injured a schoolmate. No one speak to boy to find out details when letter was given.
