UPDATE!!! New to Singapore, primary schools question

Postby maryellen » Wed Mar 09, 2011 9:46 am

I've been trying to get my daughter into a primary school, or really any school, and I've had no success. She is 6, birthday in 2004 (December) and had been in first grade back in the US. I've visited every school nearby and even visited one that was 20km away. No openings. Anywhere. At all. I've called the international schools and no luck there either. I called the MOE and they say there are no openings. My younger children are in N2 and K1 and the school won't accept my daughter because of her age. :(

What do I do? Are there many children in this unfortunate position of not having any school to go to? There are waiting lists at every school I've tried.

Thank you.

Mary Ellen

Just got a call from the MOE this morning and they have a space at Canossa Convent Primary school for her! Wow!

Very surprised to learn that no school has vacancy. I know of two schools in Bukit Merah that may have vacancies. Well, I think they should have vacancies because they had places after P2CS. You may like to try them. One is Cantonment Primary while the other is Blangah Rise. However, no guarantee that they will have vacancies.

I called Cantonment Primary and they have no vacancies. They offered to put me on the waiting list though. I will call the other school.

No space at the other school either. Any other suggestions?

Do the waiting lists help? All the schools I have contacted have offered to put me on the waiting list. I happily have done so for many (10?) but I'm starting to think its not very helpful.

Anyone else? My 3 yo and 4 yo will be starting school soon and I'm a little sad that there are no options for my 6 yo. We will homeschool if we have too.

Sorry to hear about your plight in getting a place in a Primary School for your daughter. Have a few suggestions. These schools normally have vacancies after their annual Primary 1 registration. Again, no guarantee, but worth a try as a last resort. Will add on if I can think of more along the way.
