Newbie: What do you look for in a Private Home Tutor?

Postby Enrich with Cindy » Fri Nov 23, 2012 2:57 pm

Hello,

I am a newbie here. Was a high driven marketing professional but decided to become a tutor since I have a baby.

Parents, what do you look for in a tutor?

I believe most parents will be looking for commitment (no last minute cancellations unless really no choice), patience, experience, subject knowledge, tutor's connection with the child. Most parents will also love to have regular updates from their tutors. Parents also prefer tutors with own materials instead of totally relying on assessment books.

I have heard from friends that their tutors do the following and they hate it.
--> come 1 hour late without calling to inform in advance
--> claim that they got into an accident
--> tuition day and timing keep changing
--> gets easily annoyed with their kid and says hurtful things to them
--> goes on holidays during exam period
--> suddenly disappears then reappears
--> cannot come cos its raining
--> the latest I heard was the tutor cannot come because she had to decorate her Christmas tree

Maybe other parents can add on?

I agree with TheAnswer. Most important is patience, knowledge and tutor's connection to child. Without connection, child lose interest.
