She told me not to bother to see the teachers at the PTM. Anyway, she is already JC1 and I can't be breathing down her neck too much.

For sec school kids, it will be good to hear what the teachers say if you have concerns.
slmkhoo, is your dd1 in J2 ? can share how u help/guide her to study to go thru sec /jc period ? i think i oso need to guide n steer my ds to learn to focus n time management ( pretty bad, he thinks he got rubber time- no urgency)
My younger girl is in JC1, which is why I'm fairly laidback about her poor marks. I reckon she needs time to work on it and hopefully improve. Not time to panic yet! This girl has always been very sensible and mature for her age, so I really haven't had to do much. It's my older one, taking A levels this year, who isn't doing as well. But she has learning disabilities, so we cut her more slack as it really is quite hard for her.

All I can say is that I have always been strict about schedules, and although I allowed more leeway about when and how they did things once they were in sec school, we have some basic rules about computer and phone use, bedtimes, non-negotiables like church, family time etc. I've let them waste time and then reap the consequences, and that lesson is good for them.

i feel you are a v supportive mum to help your dd1 -with the limitations, your dd1 went thru O levels n now is preparing her A level . I thought this is a long way n quite a mile stone that she has achieved. How is her prep now, does she feel stressed up easily . Her learning limitations is on study only, or how about management and handling of day to day life style.
A parent duty is not simple , handling diff stroke n learning needs of our kids :scratchhead:

Actually, she didn't take O levels because we were overseas. She took SPERS when we got back to Singapore, and so she only had to take English, Maths and a GAT. I don't know if she could have coped with O levels - we would probably have had to reduce her load to the minimum of 6 subjects! That's why this A level thing is new to all of us. We are hoping that she will do well enough that we can persuade a poly to take her in for some course next year as she probably can't get to a university. Even if she can scrape into university, we would strongly advise her not to try as we don't think she can cope with the social and self-management expectations, let alone the academic. And yes, she is showing signs of stress, so we are trying to go easy on her while still getting her to do a reasonable amount of work. Still so many months to go!

We are more concerned about her life skills and general coping, so we don't stress the academic too much. I only set the minimum requirements - like doing homework first before leisure time, reasonable bedtime etc. No point her getting good qualifications if she doesn't have the social and life skills to manage day-to-day living and job etc.

That is very good, especially since he is on his own without tuition right?

DD kept saying she is struggling a little with Math & Science, she also mentioned about not doing too well in the latest English test but did not mention anything about Geog. End up all those all A1 and 2s but Geog is a shocking D7.

But after hearing her reasons for the Geog grade I think still no need to be that worried.
