Hi,they will be repeating P5 next year because they transferred from a primary school in Malaysia.

From what I read in your HW home thread, your girls can score 75-85 for Eng/Maths/Sc when doing top school exam papers. Only their Chinese not so good. But with such decent results, why did MOE make them repeat one year hor? Not sure if they will be bored in their repeat year.

Well, they were just offered places while on the condition that they repeat P5.We did not think much and just took the places.English and Maths are their strengths.

Think it is due to their Chinese.

But usually , moe will ask school to give “ test papers “ to assess kids standard n level then decide on the level they will go to .
It depends on Sch to recommend based on “ test “ results , even for returning Singaporean - I know this coz my family member works in moe Sch .

Oh I see...Thanks for the insider info.

Hubby himself brought the girls to the school and they took a test for their proficiency in the 4 subjects. Was offered a place on condition that they repeat P5 in 2018.

DH himself settled the school matters because he wanted them to have a place in a school asap.

We got it and the DDs are on their way to their new school next year.

I expected the girls to sleep after their supper but was surprised when I peeked into their room and saw them working on their Maths and English papers.Their aunt was also busy doing her stuff as well.

When DH suggested to them to continue tomorrow, they just said it's okay for them to put in extra hours because they are going to Australia next week to stay with their grandparents and they will miss out on doing a lot of those papers during the 3 weeks there.

DH just smiled and told them not to stay up until too late.

I think I am now convinced if the DDs can tackle those test papers from those top schools, they should be able to adapt when they start school in January.

Thanks...Just have to pray that the girls will do well in school and get along with others around them.

Do you see any problem with their studies or are there more things that I should do with them to prepare them for primary school?

Hmm...I really don't know? I have no idea what's relevant for upper primary.

I guess you already know the syllabus, and are probably working with the girls using these: https://www.moe.gov.sg/education/syllabuses/

As for the school culture, I don't know if it's very different from Malaysian schools? I guess they'll be able to tell you their thoughts/feelings after Orientation.
