Tried the white ones in Taiwan. Also equally bitter. Or maybe it is the way they make it. Pure white bitter gourd juice sweetened with a bit of wild honey.

The only way I eat bitter gourd (grudgingly) is yong tofu, or if they are sauteed with black beans.

Good to know the recipe- u won't want to eat mooncakes after that, be it store bou or homemade, not worth the calories. That choco cake calories is more worth the additional thread mill time.
