I think she is a mother hen leh, Chief. In her own special way.

She goes around our homes and checks on us and dispenses her words of wisdom and encouragement too.

Isn't 'hatch' referring to the window between kitchen and dining where food is passed out? Nothing to do with chickens?

It just means 'small door or opening', but for Jennifer, the serving hatch between kitchen and dining seems most apt!
