M considering to do a scope.

Should I go for gastroscopy or colonoscopy?

Any idea how much the govt hospitals charge for these procedures?

Am thinking too.
I heard from colleagues that it is better to get a referral letter from the polyclinic to save some costs.

Yes, thinking of going to polyclinic too.

The other day, I brou elder boy to the Clementi polyclinic, very organized but waiting time to see the doctor can be 2 to 3 hours wait. Super cheap compared to seeing a private GP.

This is correct. Once you get referral letter from Polyclinic, you go into govt hospitals as subsidized patient. But of course, being subsidized, you don't enjoy some of the benefits of a full paying patient.

I know as subsidized patient, one can't choose which doctor to see.

What other exclusive benefits of private patient?

I am a private patient at KKH, I dun feel any special treatment leh.

Riding on this thread, do you have to wait for a long time before you get to see the doc for a few min?
For example, your appt time to see a doc is at 2pm, do you usually get to see the doc at the stated time?

Starlight, you mean at kkh or polyclinic? From my experience, in all these govt/structured hospitals/polyclinic, we do not need to wait for long. If the appt is 2pm, usually within 10 min can see doc. Shd there be a hiccup somewhere, the nurses will inform us. Once, for tofu boy's follow up eye check, the specialist was called away unexpectedly. We were informed when we registered that the doctor was not around and that we needed to wait.

Will need to keep to the appt and be there for the number call. If you are late for the appt or you miss your number, then the wait can be quite long.

My experience is with KKH and SGH. Doctors are hardly punctual on the appt time or I should say they are seeing many patients.
There was once I asked the nurse at the registration counter that my appt time was 3pm. She dared to tell me that this was the registration time and consultation time was different. So I gathered as a subsidized patient, we have to wait long-long.

I usu. arrive earlier. The KKH q-no is the room number+appt time.

Unless the doctor is called away at the hospital, the waiting time is not long. The waiting time at the ultrasound scan n mammo can be longer.

If I choose to do the scan and see the doctor on the same day, then I hv to wait for at least 2 hours before the scan result is out in order for doctor to review n speak to me.

I used to see a private gynae in Gleneagles Medical Centre who has another clinic at Mt. E.

Once she was busy in the morning at Mt.E and was very late to arrive at Gleneagles. My appt time was 3pm. She came in slightly after 3pm and there was 3 or 4 patients in the q before me. That day I left w/o seeing her and switched to KKH.

Ah boy is seeing a private ENT at Mt.E

The other day, we waited for > 30mins though our appt is 2pm, supposed to be the first in q in the afternoon.

Doctor came back late after lunch n chose to see the post-op patients first.

I dun know how this clinic appt system works though we r paying for specialist fees.
