I was at UOB yesterday to meet a RM to discuss opening accounts.

He was recommending me Pru-Cash plan single yearly premium plan.

So I asked him about structured deposit.

He said it is too short a term for my profile, interest rate is guaranteed for first 5 years, only the remaining 11 months interest rate is not guaranteed.

Is it so?

This is DS education fund so i had to be prudent. I opted for structured deposit over a 5 years 11 mths period. First 5 years guaranteed int of 2.2% while last year int rate will range from 1.4% - 3% depending on performance. The min 1.4% is guaranteed. Principle sum is guaranteed. This time line works well for DS who will be 20 years old by then. The only risk is for UOB to go bust.

http://www.prudential.com.sg/corp/prude ... d_pay.html

The plan he designed for me is a $12000 (approx.) single yearly premium payable for the next 5 years, yearly cashback which is a guaranteed amount from 3rd year onwards is $1900 (approx.) and a 15 years term.

Looks very attractive to me.

There is also a 10 years term plan, with no cashback.

I prefer the plan with cashback, more liquidity.
