L1R5 = First language (EL) grade plus the relevant 5 subjects' grade

A1 is best, C6 just passed, D7 is considered failed

so, L1R5 should be as low as possible : lowest is 6, but after subtracting 2 points for CCA, 2 points for affiliation : technically lowest possible is 2 points out of L1R5 !!

verykiasu2010, thanks for the clear explanation! Think this is, by far, the best and easiest to understand for the term L1R5!

I still remember the time when my niece told me her L1R5 grade many years ago, I was like :?

Any advantage in taking HMT for O level?

How are the points calculated for A level to qualify for local Uni?

Hi verykiasu

So this link with my posting on the newspaper on PLSE less weightage on Chinese. It is because in Olevel, Chinese is not a compulsory subject to have in the L15R. OK now I understand

Then if I want to see Olevel result from secondary school, how to compare? By comparing the mean subject?

Based on L15R, Maths and Science can also become not a compulsory subject to have in the computation as well. So is MOE making sense by just saying they are lowering Chinese weightage simply because it is not compulsory for L15R? Or should lower all weightage except for English? Sorry but I don't think their qualification for the change of policy makes sense.

I THINK what MOE saying is this : CL is not compulsory to pass or pass required at a lower standard of paper ( I have not read it in the ST today, only based on what u guys posted here).

All along, CL2 or HMT has never been in the L1R5 computation. A pass is required is not the same as being included in the L1R5.

But of course if your kid happen to get A1 for the CL2 at 'O' Level, it is okay to put that in as part of L1R5 as u need a contrasting subject even in the R5 part of the L1R5.

I presume for those choosing subjects like History, Geog, Lit, Econs at the 'A' Level, the 'O' Level Add Math / Physics / Chem / Bio would become the non-relevant subjects .....lolz

If you pass HMT at 'O' Level, there is no need to take MT when in junior college. The time saved can be used to do other things or dating (!!)

Even if you got A1 at CL2 at 'O' Level, u still need to do CL2 in junior college

26hourmaid, u r welcome ! if u look at the COP of the JCs, some are at 3 points for the L1R5 (6 subjects) ....lolz long time ago when CCA was only an ECA and no points being awarded, it was really just ECA and no point expending so much time in it. These days it is totally different !

verykiasu2010, I know what you mean! I belong to that age whereby CCA was known as ECA too. Things are so different nowadays and that's why when my niece told me about her results, I was like :? and told her sorry lah, this auntie very back dated and mind you, that was the first time I heard of such a term called L1R5 and my niece is 20 this year! Now I know better!
