Thanks all for the advise! Yes, it is abit worrying as i thought it might be too early to stress her. I saw alot of headstart programmes from learning centers. I should perhaps start sourcing around. She is a little weak in her English... any recommendation?

Starting early is to keep stress at bay. Having tuition is not meant to be stressful. If tuition is stressing your child, it is not suitable for ur child. Look again. Learning is meant to be a pleasant and enriching experience. I ensure that my students have an enjoyable lesson and they look forward to my lesson every week. If the lesson is dreadful, it will be ineffective. Who wants something that is dreadful?

It takes a long time to find a suitable center or tutor so finding early helps. When it’s too last minute, that’s when the stress starts.

Many students are preparing for next year’s O level during the holidays. It is nothing unusual for preparation to start early.

All the best.

Some kids repeat o-levels while others continue even with poor scores.
What are the benefits of repeating the o-level and which type of students do this?
Thanks, Karen
If they continue with poor scores, it means that their studying techniques are wrong. With the right techniques and coaching, any student can perform to their best abilities for any exams.

O level syllabus is fairly manageable to any student. It is the understanding and application process that may be taught differently by different tutors/teachers. All concepts can be simplified for easy understanding.

Feel free to pm me if you need further advice.

All the best!

All about discipline! Most kids aren't dumb! They just need lots and lots of practice, and it's not about how much they practice but how often! Repetition in key.

At this juncture, it would be appropriate to zoom in on the areas which she might be particularly weaker in, for e.g. comprehension questions or essays. Targeted practice can then be focused on these identified areas. In addition, Paper 3 (Listening Comprehension) and 4 (Oral) are two components that students sometimes neglect but they constitute 1/3 (30%) of the entire paper, so students who are aiming for distinction in EL must ensure that they they score well for these two papers.

Yes, I agree with your that most kids aren't dumb! Some just don't know what they need and how much they need to do to score well. Some hardworking kids who are not performing could be that they might be using a wrong method to study or the method is not suitable for them. It is important that as parents and tutors, we help to analyse what is their real problem and guide them accordingly. After all, they can't expect any changes if they don't make any changes in their study method!

It's about discipline. Please try and monitor him and see if he has been putting in efforts or if he has his mind focused on something else. If your son has the discipline he will definitely improve with time. Usually they all struggle during Sec 3 because it's a huge jump from Sec 2 to 3 but most start gaining momentum during Sec 3 prelims. It's good that you are already identifying his weaknesses at Sec 3 so it is definitely not too late to help him prepare for his O Level.
