Hi there,

If I remember correctly, there used to be a thread discussing about the LR5 (or something like that) & how it was calculated.

Also, if a sec school is affiliated to a JC, how many points can he minus when apply to the JC ?

Thanks

Minus 2 for affiliation.

entry to JC is based on L1R5 including a humanity subject

2 bonus points off for affiliated sec school to JC; and another 2 bonus points off for very good CCA performance, and 2 bonus points off for HMT (distinction?) ... max allowed is 4 bonus points off

so the lowest possible for L1R5 is 2.

Thanks verykiasu2010.

So does that mean that in theory, if you are in an affiliated school & you are sure you can get distinction for HMT, there is no need to be active in CCA ?

Thanks

No, that is not a very good mindset to have and it is not a very safe thing to do. For example a person in VS will enjoy minus 2 if they put VJC as first choice. However, VJC cut off point is 4 nett. Let's say the person has raw L1R5 of 10 points. After placing VJC as first choice, he will enjoy 4 bonus points to have 6 nett. But 6 will not qualify him to VJC and thus the affiliation points will be annulled and so he will actually only enjoy 2 bonus points to have 8 nett.

that cut off point of 4 nett is already after the bonus point

theoretically L1R5 lowest possible is 6 before any of the bonus / discount = A1 is all six subjects

affiliation is automatically granted 2 points bonus but not CCA which could be 1 or 2 points

sounds like it

but with the time freed up from MT (HMT @ O level means no more MT in JC) - might as well enjoy some CCA, unless you need the time to do H3 subjects ....

before the restriction on max 4 bonus points, it was possible to have zero points to enter JC, i.e. L1R6 = 6, minus 2 for affiliation, minus 2 for HMT, minus 2 for CCA ....

Thanks for the insight.

Am I right in saying that what you are trying to say is that if one did not get his/her affiliated school in the first choice, then the -2 points is useless when considered for 2nd choice (thus only enjoy -2 points). Therefore better play safe to do the HMT for another -2 points ?

Am I correct in interpreting what you're trying to say ?

So now they cap at minus 4 ?
