Hi everyone, Sec 1 kids will be promoted to Sec 2 next year. How are your kids coping so far with the additional subjects in Sec? Anyone did CL in P5/6 & taking HCL this year? Are you happy with your kid's Sec 1 performance? Are they able to cope without tuition?

Thanks for setting up this post so that we can all continue.

The school did a good job in helping the students transit. In fact, the transition had been smooth. In fact, this year had been more "senang" than last year. Hours are about the same as she had been active in CCA previously and was already attending full day school for 3-4 days since p2.

Am not sure if it is because of puberty or because she never picked up from the slack after PSLE, but I noticed that her stamina is not as good as previously. She sleeps at not later than 10pm now, sometimes even by 9pm.

With maturity, she now understands the importance of time management and is more productive now, ie less dilly-dallying. Hence, results now are better even though she still does not appear to be doing much studying. It may also be because she is more attentive in class now so most of the learning is already done in school and no further work needs to be done at home.

I kept her Chinese tuition as I would like her to be exposed to a higher standard of Chinese. This is for Higher Chinese even though she is not doing Higher Chinese in school.

Overall, this had been a very happy and fruitful year for DD.

I wonder how the streaming is like for sec two students progressing to sec 3 . Is it very difficult to choose a subject combination?
What if the child is good at memorizing things ( that may help for bio ,history , and goeg) but not that good at subjects that need thinking ( for example, maths, physics, etc ) ? If the child is offered triple science, should she take it up ? Or should she choose double science instead?
We will all pass this streaming together so brace yourselves , honeymoon period is over . It's the crucial year next year. All dragon year babies ( and rabbit tail babies) have to give all they've got next year to get into a good and their dream combination 加油! :imcool: :xedfingers: ( hehe and we as parents will have to drink more coffee to keep awake so as not go to dreamland when teaching our dc .) ;)

I don't understand - what is there to prepare? U just study as usual n when the year end results are out, you just select.
