Retaking of HMTL O levels in J1?

Hello parents (:

I am an IP student who just received my O-level results yesterday. I sat for the Higher Chinese paper and obtained a score below my own expectations, and am now facing the dilemma of whether I should retake the paper end of this year in J1.

I have read through a few threads, and from what I can gather, is that trying too hard for a good grade in Mother Tongue is unnecessary, and even redundant, as it would be better to save that time spent on Chinese lessons and/or homework to focus on other subjects for the A-level exams.

However, what I understand from my teachers and friends is that your O-level HTML grade will be converted into its equivalent in the A-levels and it will be reflected on your report card? So let's say if I had an A1, I will have an A grade for the Chinese subject which will be reflected together with the other A-level papers I will be sitting for. Is that true?

And if it is, is the conversion of the result from Os to As on the same level? That is to say, getting an B3 or B4 in Os will be a B in As?

In a nutshell, my worry is that I don't really want my Chinese grade to "taint" my A-level report card. I know it sounds very shallow, but I am just wondering that if I feel like I have a good chance of pulling my grade up in Chinese, should I just go for it? Or should I really just focus all my efforts on my JC subjects instead? I have heard that H1 Chinese lessons are rather time-consuming, or does that differ from JC to JC?

Thank you very much for reading through this and I would really appreciate any advice you can give me (:

P.S. I did pass my paper overall; I just feel like I could have done better.

What grade did you get for your HCL? And what grade do you think you are capable of getting should you retake? Did you find this paper difficult or did you write off-topic in your Compo?

Hi, I just showed this to my dd who has also taken her HCL O level result yesterday. She said yes to both questions - the A grade for O level HMT is the same as A grade for A level Chinese n your O level HMT will be reflected in your A level results.

Your concern is also legit. However, she said that the difference between a A n B grade for HMT O level is very minimal n it wouldn't impact your final score very much for entry into the U.

Did you do very badly for O level HMT?

Hi, I'm currently in the same predicament, except the information I've been getting is a little different!

I scored a B4 for my HCL paper, and while I thought that it would mean a B on my A level certificate, many people are telling me that this will be reflected as a C grade. They're saying that A1 and A2 are A, B3 is B and B4 is C. This does not really make sense to me, but I've heard this from many different people and I think it might be true? Does anyone know if this is true (from a reliable source, since I'm hearing many different things)? I am considering retaking the paper only if it appears as a C grade and not if it shows as a B grade, so can someone please enlighten me on this?

It's a C.
A1/2 - A
B3 - B
B4 - C
C5 - D
C6 - E
D7 - S

-from a jc student who did h1 Cl last year.

Does anyone know if the above is still valid, ie, how O levels HMT grade is reflected on A level cert?

Your A level cert will only show the papers you sat at A levels in one sitting. So it'll only show your H2 subjects and H1 subjects. Your HCL paper will be reflected in a separate cert as O levels.

Thks, that's what I thought too. In my time, HCL grades taken at O levels also not reflected in the A lvl cert, but my gal said she heard otherwise.

Can anyone confirm if this is true for IPstudents taking HCL Os in 2016?(HCL Os in 2016 is a completely new format)How come the previous posts mention that O level HCL result is reflected in A level cert?

I forgot to quantify that I was asking about IP students earlier on. My girl says that O level HCL grades will be reflected in the A level cert. We're just wondering how it would be reflected, is it still A1/2 --> A, B3 --> B, etc.
