After the "CCA trials" in sec 1, my son has shortlisted softball and fencing as his CCAs where he is told he can do well.
Any opinion on which one should we put as the first choice? Both these sports are going to be his first time. In a IP course, he is not in a dire situation to score CCA points as a leverage for JC admission later too.
Any opinion will be appreciated.
TIA
I will go for fencing, is indoor, is cool :imcool: , a rare opportunity to learn fencing, it is not a common CCA, not many schools have it.

breleow wrote:hello parents. anyone has children holding leadership positions in their CCAs? does it take up a lot of their time and affect their results? my son expressed interest in holding leadership position in his cca but i'm worried that it will affect his results. wondering if it'll be worth it..
my son was given a vp post in his infocomm cca in sec 2. he was very involved and it affected his studies...no time to study for tests or else forget to study for it...then homework was completed close to 1am. he was stressed and close to tears as there was streaming at the end of the year.
I talked to him about it...we agreed he dropped the position and just be an ordinary member, attending the cca only on Friday during the stipulated hours.

My son is in infocomm too. In his school he specializes in photography which is also part of the club. After the Sec 1 camp, which he was one of them on photography duty, his teacher actually advise him to push down all cca responsibilities to the lower sec so that he can concentrate on exams.

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, he is not allowed to step down until April.

This is the practice that he has to follow.

My girl is in sec 1 this year. She is elected as class vice chairman and soon teacher put in charge of decorating the notice board. Yesterday she came back with a consent form for leadership training which we have to pay for. And no point will be awarded for attending. That was the last straw. DH gave her a lecture of what we would do if this kind of thing happens in the adult world.

Saying no and playing taichi inorder not to be overload with unreasonble/overwhelming expectations is also an important set of skill that the kid might as well learn early.

son was in charge of photography and editing. it takes up a lot of time.
whenever there was an event like cross country or some VIP visiting the school, he would be involved. I am so relieved he doesn't have to do all this now.
