Hi Forevermom,

I'm not an expert, but thought I'd try to help. I think first need to figure out what is meant by 'hypothesis statement'. Does it mean your son needs to say if he agrees or disagrees on whether there is change and continuity as far as traditional street cobblers are concerned?

Can you read through his research (the interview and the survey) to see if you can help him come up with such a statement? He would need to use details from his research to support his statement, so reading through the interview and survey is important. Doing this would also help in testing the hypothesis.

My DS is also in Sec 2 but he hasn't been asked to do anything like this so I'm just guessing here.

Thank u so much Jacsplace for your tips. He came up with something in the end but didn’t look q right to me. It’s ok. Just get it over and done with. I have never looked at his history materials before. It was a last minute attempt for try to get him going as every single day of late submission means 20% marks gone.

Since the theme is change n
continuity, I guess the approach is observing what has changed/remained the same....

A simple hypothesis might be "Present street cobblers are mainly descendants of past immigrant street cobblers" (Assumption is that the immigrant street cobblers of the past passed down their trade to their descendants)

Then do interviews? Some may have relatives who taught them the trade, some not...?

From the data, check if hypothesis is true.

I'm thinking of this hypothesis because in the past, most coffeeshop owners /stall holders are Hainanese, so its q common to see the traditional coffeeshop s or even Ya Kun are Hainanese.

Are traditional street cobblers associated with any dialect groups?
