Most Poly use L1R2B2, which is English (L1), 2 relevant subjects (usually Maths or Science for engineering courses), and best 2 subjects.

Now we seldom use L1B5, it's more of L1R5.

Correct.
Relevant subjects depend on the individual course entry requirement, be it JC or Poly.
A student getting L1B5 below 20, does not means that he/she is eligible for JC. Only when he/she gets L1R5 below 20, then he/she is eligible for JC.

when MOE places schools in the different bands or when it ranks schools in the past, they use L1B5.

For students, only L1R5 is applicable to them.

We are pleased with her result though she is not those straight As type. We see that she has put in her best for this exam, to me that is more important. She has clear interest for a particular course in Poly and know where her passion lies. We support her decision.

From this year's result, we observed that the moderation is very scary. Those who obtained around 75 for E maths ( the students have copied the answers and verified with Tutor's solutions and answers in the forum ) get a C5 after moderation. Around 85 gets B3 and more than 90 gets A2. Which means those who get A1 scored full marks or very close to it. :!: To aim for A1 with 75 marks is clearly not sufficient, one has to aim for full marks for an A1. Scary isn't it ?

really? My sis maths is usually in the b4 range but she managed to get an a2!

Yes, in fact I see most of their grades are better than what they get in school as the papers were much easier. What I am saying is the moderation that brings their grades down. Those who scored 80 plus were hopeful for an A1 but ended in the B range.
