From what I know, all HCL secondary 3 express students must take their O level chinese paper before can proceed to taking HCL O level in secondary 4.

Only the ip students are exempted from the O chinese paper.

If I am wrong, anyone one can furnish the correct info.
I know of students from IP school doing the O level paper. But did not ask if they have been transferred to the O level track in the school.

My gut feel is that it will be harder to score at year end as one is up against the HCL students.

It is a different bell curve for Sec 3 HCL students vs the Sec 4 CL students.

Really? That is good news. DD is undecided as to whether to re-take or not. Not a must as current grade is fine too. But it will make sense to re-take if different bell curve.

Not sure is it the same bell curve but my niece's teacher has told them to work super hard to achieve better result :(

Mine is re-taking for personal satisfaction. Does not make sense to me as any improvement is capped at 1 point. Time is better spent working on weaker subjects where there is more mileage. DD does have some spare capacity so seeking clarification from school on certain details before finalising.

I have to agree with the teacher.
The oral/listening component (35% of the total) is already fixed.
The dates of first attempt/2nd attempt are just a few months apart.
Assuming that whatever grade that the student gets is not unexpected of him (i.e not 一时失手 like 作文离题), then to achieve better results in the 2nd attempt, he will definitely need to put in much effort and it has to be done within the next 2 and a half months before the retake date in Nov.
Whether worth it or not, I guess will have to depend on how the student is faring for other subjects too.

The info was from my child's teacher. So, not sure whether it is fair or unfair for certain group. From the perspective of Sec 3 HCL students, they may feel that they are already taking the exam 1 year before the CL students thus at disadvantage. MOE knows their job. Thus, they do not allow a student to take both HCL and CL in the same exam.

No matter what, I guess the children just have to do their best.

For oral, since it is conducted over a few days, the difficulty of the topics varies.

Thus, does anyone know if the marks will be moderated based on the difficulty of the topics?
