Looking for maths tuition teacher (2017 Sec1)

Postby nms1 » Mon Nov 28, 2016 1:44 pm

My daughter is convinced that she will need maths tuition once she goes into Secondary school so I want to start looking now although we won't be able to confirm until we know her school schedule. She scored a B in PSLE which was the best she could have expected.

She wants a female teacher, 1-2-1 or small group, able to come to us in Serangoon Gardens or location should be close to Serangoon or along NE line as she will be going to St Josephs Convent.

Don't know if you are aware but Sec School Maths is so much easier than PSLE Maths.

Why not wait until she starts Maths lessons before deciding on tuition?

I am trying to stall as I am hoping that she may be able to go without any extra help at least for Sec 1 - or even part of it - so that she can have time to enjoy the new subjects she will be studying. However, I thought I would see what the options are so that we can find someone as and when we need them.

hi nms1,
it might be a good idea to have a headstart during the dec holiday so that the child is prepared for what lies ahead since results are released.

For her case, the book called Understanding Math by GLM should be helpful. There are 2 sets of similar qns for each practice, the 2nd set can be used to reinforce or as a diagnostics test.

But recently, I don't see this book (have Book B for sec 2 but no Book A for sec 1) in the bookstores...

I have moved the post to this section as it is more relevant.

Personally, I feel that tuition is like a crutch. The more we depend on it, the less able we will be able to walk by ourselves.
It is way too early at this point to determine if your child needs help. Maybe do a training needs analysis after the tests in term 1 in February? Then you know with more certainty which subject needs additional help.

Hi, I'm a full time maths tutor teaching sec1-5 with 5 years of experience, am also MOE registered relief teacher and accredited social worker. Any parents whose kids request for maths tuition for extra support can email me at misswong91@hotmail.com or PM me, we can discuss further on the child's needs. I would also offer free first meet-up session so that you can also see for yourself whether it is a good fit with no obligation to hire me after that if deemed not suitable :)

Maths and Science Tuition/ Intensive Revision by Experienced Full Time Tutor

I have been a full time tutor since 2008, and have thoroughly enjoyed teaching Maths and Science for the past 9 years.

In order to do well, my tutees are expected to attend class with positive attitude, listen attentively in class and do their work diligently.

Concepts are explained in simple terms, focus on common exam questions, new trends and commonly made mistakes

I coach lower secondary maths and science, N and O level Chemistry, Chemistry/Physics, A Math and E Math

2016 EOY Exams
90% ≥ B3

2015 O LEVELS
70% A1/A2
100% ≥ B3

“Thank you for teaching me Chemistry for the past half a year. You teach in a way that is simple and easy to understand. You made difficult concepts seem easy. Somehow you knew that I know how to answer the question but I do not know how to phrase my answers and as a result, you drilled me a lot on this which therefore led to me finally passing Chem this year. So I feel grateful and thankful towards you for being so accurate in finding out my weakness, correcting it and making me like studying Chem again. Without you, I don't think I would be able to find the O level paper easy. May you continue to impact students and make them love Chem!”
' Miss Tan has tutored me in Combined Science (Chemistry) and E Maths for my O Level Exams. She has an excellent teaching style that is easy to pick up on and for me to adapt to. I have had no problems understanding her teaching. She shows how to properly do a task or work through problems and from there, she helps me master the task or solution problem. I have since been able to independently solve fairly challenging questions for both Chemistry and E Maths. This is thanks to using her demonstrated methods. With her calm and friendly demeanour, I am unafraid to ask for help when I do not understand something.
One of her best teaching methods is that she can easily summarise a complicated chapter into a flowchart or table, making it easier for me to retain in my memory and to recall during the examinations. I also appreciated her patience with me when she was tutoring me in E Maths. It gave me more confidence in trying out the questions as she did not "crowd" me for a correct answer.
So thank you Miss Tan :)'
