schweppes wrote: I know you have voiced your concerns here about long school days and preference for her CCA to be once a week. Just know that if she goes on DEP, then you have to be prepared that she will have to stay back after school for more than 2 times a week. It gets more intensive during the O level year. Because it's an academic subject, there is the added stress level that one needs to score well.

However, if that is her strength and interest, then it is worthwhile considering nurturing her strength as her self-esteem will improve. Because even though it is hard work, her passion and interest is there, so that helps.
her cca is confirmed...once a week wednesdays 3-530pm.
if she reallys finds her interest in DEP, then the game plan will have to change in sec 3. by then, i would expect her to be independent and good in time management. DEP supposed to replace one of her subjects and it will definitely involve more time after school hours. let's wait and see. in the meantime, hope she gets adjusted to sec 1 soon. she has 3 tests so far...math, science practical and english.

in my sch ( chij tpy ) , drama is a subject for sec 1 & 2. in sec 3, you have to go through auditions to get into DEP. DEP means taking drama as an o level subject. yes indeed, it is more than just being a drama mama & mediacorp-like thing. we are focused on theatre studies , and its not only acting involved. there's lighting, sound, makeup, costume, crew etc in every play, thus we must apply this into our theatre study also. many people have this misconception that as long as ur loud & speak with a rich bank of vocabulary , you can make it in drama & score As for drama exams. That is not the case. there are many other aspects in Theatre Studies, and if your daughter is really interested, and if by Sec 2 EOY she can attain a A2 and above, she can consider to take dep. However , if she already takes higher chinese, aep/mep etc; and doesn't have the passion for performing & focusing, i do not suggest that she take dep as it is a very intensive subject to take for o level as there is much more in standing in the spotlight in the amazing world of theatre. in theatre , we learn how to work as a team , to create an breathtaking piece for competitions, exams etc. :rahrah:

to take drama as an elective subject for o levels would require a lot of time involved. though she likes to perform, i don't think she can go into that intensive level of involvement. thanks for your advice.

Hi btsfangirl,
i attended the meeting yesterday for sec 1s.
was informed that drama is compulsory for sec 1-2. there will be individual, group and even written exams conducted. the teachers in charge are presently going for training to get the drama elective program ready by next year. it's still early to tell. in any case, i will check with you. thanks in advance.

yeap! Drama is compulsory for sec 1-2 and it gives the students an insight about how each lesson is conducted. Yeah, sec 1 is too early to tell if your daughter wants to take DEP. Maybe sec 1 end of the year, your daughter might have a choice already. Just curious, what cca is your daughter in? is she in theatre?

it's interesting to have drama in the curriculum.
at sec 1, adjusting to the new subjects and also english/math and science really needs adjustment.
daughter is in media club as she enjoys taking and editing pics.

Hello! I'm a tkgian! My school offers mep and dep. However, you have to start mep at sec 1 while dep is offered at sec 2. You can only appeal to take dep based on your sec 1 fte results (eoy result) where your English and lit must be at past a b4 (60 marks)!!
