Here are recent years' news topics that I covered with my students as part of preparation for next month's O'Level oral examination. These topics can appear in Paper 1 实用文/议论文/材料新闻 questions too. All the best! :rahrah:

Day 1's CL oral theme is related to inclusive society. The latest 早报 issue covering this topic is 2022 Issue 3 (4th last topic in the table above).

Food Wastage is part of the Social Studies curriculum. To communicate fluently to examiner in Mother Tongue and to bring in United Nations news article will boost the marks. Don’t you agree that food wastage can be linked to food insecurity and food sustainability ?

The video content was related to eating/consumer habits (ordering too much vs. finishing what you purchase) while the questions mainly revolved around how to prevent food waste and persuade others against it + whether you agree Singaporeans are wasteful/take things for granted. Thus, it should be quite manageable, without having to go too "deep/technical".

Since 2019, there has been quite a lot of coverage cos‘ the Zero Waste Masterplan (迈向零废弃) was announced that year and Food Waste Reduction Campaign (减少浪费事物运动) was launched too. Last year's 逗号 Issues 3 and 4 also had coverage on related articles/subthemes (such as ”丑食“). Teachers will constantly update on the latest trends/hot topics/ongoing issues and discuss with/highlight to the students (granted, some only in the form of handouts cos of time constraint) so they should be fairly prepared for this theme.

:thankyou:

Thank you very much,
for good useful sharing,
from both (Chen laoshi and sembgal). Very much appreciated :-) Once again, Thank you.

just wondering ...
"food wastage" is a problem, encountered by many countries, not just in Singapore alone.

Thus,
besides

"food wastage" and "global warming" issue(s),

what other Chinese Oral (O-level) topics can possibly come out,
that concern problems encountered by several countries globally,

be it in (pu-hua or gao-hua) Oral ? Thank you.

There main topics are more or less predicable. It's the diversification of sub topics that make the preparation more challenging in terms of preparation (content, range of vocab).

--> Health - physical (can be branched out to exercising, diet, bad habits etc.), mental etc.
--> Technology - AI, cashless payment, technology assisted teaching etc.
--> Internet - cyber security (can be branched out to personal data theft, scam etc.), e-learning, fake news, e-commence, cyber bullying etc.
--> Environment - recycling, waste reduction, electronic waste, food waste, cleanliness, greenify etc.
--> Moral value/Virtues

Thanks very much, Chen laoshi. Above supplied, is a very useful timely, revision list for Oral preparation.

To add on,
I will include recent various "scamming " :-

- scam (banks,
money $,

love preying on lonely men and women, lonely souls out there seeking companionship,

jobs by job seekers,

by loan sharks,
people who lend $ illegally, to people in distress, etc).

- good to watch Friday night TV programme on "Crime watch", see how these scammers operate.

Another thing is,
how about state of "Mental Wellness" ?

For the past 2.5 years,
many people due to global lockdown, many families broke down, family abuse occurred to vulnerable (young kids, wives and elderly old folks) at home. Increase or rise in school going children and teenagers Youth making appointment to see counsellors in schools, hospital, IMH, etc. During June school holiday, one week was dedicated to "Mental wellness" week. Do you think "Mental wellness" Oral topic, can come out ?

to answer you (sembgal) -

For this year 2022, luckily, this
Day #2
pu-hua Oral (O-level) on

"food wastage",
is not hard,

provided
one has read up something beforehand on this topic, and "throw out" / regurgitate,
in front of the invigilator (Oral). Otherwise, the mind can also go blank, if never anticipate this type of question.
