Yes I agree brain can be rejuvenated n remodel. we need to self learn a lot at work Thru experiences . And each year end, I feel myself become wiser due to the heavy work load n closing of financial year statements! New discovery new improvements made .learn out of own initiative n Hunger yields more powerful results compared to being ask or told to learn.

Both the kids are managing on their own now. I only play a supervisory role.

DS has 2 CCAs, both he enjoys a lot. He knows he needs to maintain his grades or he will be required to drop one. Because of this, he has taken ownership of his studies and I do not even need to get involved in any way.

I believe in always stretching them to deal with time and attention conflicts (DD sat for 4 music exams during her O levels year) and letting them fall, within certain constraints. The competition in the working world is cut throat and they need to be ready for it.

4 hours? Ur DS is very diligent. My DS is still in "shutdown" mode - eat, sleep, read books. He is obsessed in reading books esp those Chris Ryan, Hunters books..etc..Think I will stop him from borrowing books.

I asked DS to work on the leftover Sec 1 assessment books esp Maths. He said the Maths syllabus for Sec 1 & Sec 2 is very different, thus, it is unnecessary to work on the remaining assessment books. Same applies to other Science subjects.

He claims that he has done well the exams & he is very good liao so no need to do this or that. He just has tons of excuses to excuse himself. I really not sure hw shld I convince him.

Shld I get him to complete those Sec 1 assessment books esp maths & science? Or get him prepared for Sec 2 syllabus?

if he starts sec 2 syllabus now, will he be bored when school starts?

the science textbooks are for lower secondary (daughter's school uses 'all about science' by hodder publication), so what is taught in sec 1 should be tested at the end of sec 2. for daughter, i am definitely getting her to ramp up esp her chemistry. for math, it's really to get her brains working. so we are finishing up whatever is not done in the assessment book.
it's 2 months before sec 2 starts...if she doesn't do anything, she would have problems catching up.
i've bought sec 2 assessment/reference titles for math, history and geography.

Why stop him reading? Reading is good - relaxing, improves languages etc. Even if you think he spends too much time on it, surely the solution is to limit the time rather than stop it altogether.

It's true he did well, so really, why would you want him to study some more? Since he did do well, I think you should let him do what he likes most of the day, and just programme a couple of hours a day. He may himself get tired of too much leisure and find something else to do. The only reason that would convince him to do work, I think, would be to ask him to think if there are topics he is weak in and go over those, or do a revision paper in ley subjects at least once now, and again in Dec, to "keep warm". Just make sure that he doesn't do any 1 thing to the exclusion of all else (like computer games) - keep a balance.

I think dd has worked hard and will leave her to enjoy the holidays. In fact, I will be worried if I only see her studying during holidays. She spent her time watching utube, painting. I do see her making notes... supposed this is considered studying. I do wish she could read or revise her Chinese...

Waiting to get her new books so that she can read up on the new subject (in place of D&T)...something about food. Should be interesting. During our time in secondary school, it would be home economics.

DD has not been reading story books this year. For Chinese, I will ask her to try reading books by 尤今。Any recommendations for English books. Thanks thanks!

i'm reminding daughter to pick up a book to read...any book. just read. otherwise it will be youtube and instagram
