Chinese teachers are mainly from China?

Postby kathteu » Sun Aug 14, 2011 3:53 pm

Hi parents

While doing my visits to the preschools, I realized that most teachers who teaches chinese are from mainland china. The school told me that this was preferred by most parents.

Is this true?

Thanks

regards
Kath

I can't find even ONE local who can speak acceptable Mandarin as a teacher for my preschoolers.

Those who can speak good Mandarin are rare in Singapore. They are going to be like extinct species here. Kids here, even though with A or A* in their O or A also can't communicate effectively in Mandarin (most of them only good in exams).

I think more than 90% local can't pass their higher level Han Yu Pin Yin to begin with (so watch out if these people are teaching the kindergarteners HYPY coz may have taught wrongly...)

PS: Not all China Chinese preschool teachers got their advance HYPY cert but those who were really trained 6 years in their schools will have this).

Kinda confusing local no good, And China teacher must have 6years HYPY consider good but FYI local study HYPY since primary & secondary school! I myself got only B4 in 'O' level, looking at kindergarden chinese syllabus I find it can be convey easily to my kid .

Actually, there are also very good local teachers in enrichment centres in Singapore. Both have different advantages.

Most important is local teacher understand local culture and children better and hence can teach more effectively

some of these chinese teachers from china has been around for years, in pre-school, pri school, sec school, and private tutors and tuition center teachers

singaporean chinese teachers quite extinct, and tend to speak 'singnese' too, ability to articulate an argument / debate in chinese is not as good as those pro chinese lang teacher lah
