Purposeful play to be part of preschool curriculum

CNA 20 Nov 11
SINGAPORE: The Education Ministry said "purposeful play" will be one of the principles in the new Kindergarten Curriculum Framework, which is expected to be released next year.

Ms Indranee said that while children love fun activities, doing fun things with children is not enough. Ms Indranee said: "Having good intentions in the activities carried out for the children is no longer sufficient. Purposeful play is not just any play. Besides being enjoyable, it allows children to make meaning out of their experiences. Teachers have an important task to deepen play experiences to ensure that they are enjoyable and beneficial for all children."

Can't wait to see how purposeful play is defined.

aiyah...too late for me already. DD2 will be in K2 by then and any changes will not be in time for her. Fortunately, she is having quite a stressed free, fun environment in her childcare.

May not be a bad thing. when every activity and play becomes a "lesson",it could diminish the fun or child's ability to "connect the dots" himself/herself. Imagine at the playground see-saw and the teachers are talking about physics behind it.
