Teachers' sudden resignations affect preschool's lessons
SINGAPORE: Morning classes at the Tampines branch of Al-Amin Preschool were affected on Thursday when three of the school's teachers suddenly resigned.
The teachers cited low pay and poor working hours as the reason.
Channel NewsAsia understands that four teachers and the principal at the branch resigned last month.
Teachers from other branches of the preschool, as well as those from its sister schools, were called in to help out on Thursday morning.
Parents of the students said there are about 15 staff at the preschool.
Some 200 children attend lessons at the centre.
According to the pre-school's board, long-serving staff who did not want to upgrade their qualifications were unhappy with the higher salary drawn by new and more qualified staff.
Parents said they are disappointed by what is happening.
Two parents have pulled their children out of the school, and the school has fully reimbursed their school fees.
"As parents, I hope that we will be kept in the loop should there be any problems, because we can offer any kind of assistance if necessary," said Suriani Ishak, the mother of a student at the preschool.
The preschool said lessons at the Tampines branch were back to normal around noon.
