Europe Trip

School terms keep kids in school and parents sane. Holidays can be boring to kids if they are left alone. Discuss vacation ideas and how to make good use of the free time for both children and adults.

Maybe feed toddler in restaurant or let toddler eat first before go to restaurant?

Are there destinations that accept messy eaters in their bistros or restaurants?

It's not so much the cities, but the type of eatery. Casual and family-style places will be more tolerant. In the summer, you could eat outside too! Presumably you bring your son to eat out in Singapore? There will be similar places elsewhere too. How old is he? You can start training now.

We go to Crystal Jade, Imperial Treasure, Paradise restaurants, generally Chinese places where the culture is too polite for the restaurants to complain. He is a 3 yo Terror. We went to a Dempsey bistrot before and he attracted dirty looks from the waiters after he dropped paella and flung his utensils around. I cant bear to think of the froideur we will attract from European waiters.

Does he behave like that at home? I guess you have to train him at home first. Three should be old enough to be fairly neat. Flinging food and utensils sounds more like a tantrum than inability to be neat.

Well haha I'm glad for your optimism that he can be trained. There are uber manager moms who manage and train their children into docile, high achieving little machines. :xedfingers:

His toddler hood seems to be one whole year of tantrums, screams, kicks, wild running followed by wild falls. I am mostly lying flat this year, exhausted (I am an older mom). I managed to rouse a bit to teach him English and Chinese. Other than that it is wildly challenging getting him to eat nicely, play nicely or not scream at meals, baths, sleep, poop (even poop!)

Paella or rice is extremely hard to clean off the floor & table if flung around. Wouldnt blame the waiters for tsk-ing. Suggest u just order child-sized buns (or BYO) - they are far easier for a 3yo to self-feed. If he flings them it means he’s full & just move on to quiet drawing on paper (or last resort on holidays, iPad).

If that's the case, then perhaps you can try other types of holidays for now, that don't feature fine dining. Just until he has toned down somewhat.

My concern is not those mischievous behaviours of the 3 years old boy, I am more worry on whether it is an good idea to bring a kid below 5 (without Covid 19 vaccination) to overseas during this pandemic period. If he catch the Covid 19 during the trip, is he able to get medical care at the hospital there?
