Cruise - royal caribbean

School terms keep kids in school and parents sane. Holidays can be boring to kids if they are left alone. Discuss vacation ideas and how to make good use of the free time for both children and adults.

For those who had been on royal caribbean cruise, can share what you did in Penang or KL? did you join their "packaged tour" or go on your own? TIA

Hmm...I went with my family on RC in Yr 2008.

We got off at Phuket and just walk around.

Did not join in their package. Cos' they charge all in USD, quite ex for me.

Depends on your family size? If with kids, then i think not so worth.

Moreover, only a short period of time on the tour

I went for a site tour on the boat.

Actually I think it's not that impressive.

Tours will only work, if you have a few families with you, and the extra cash to pay for the family room.

The basic room is far too small, and it makes you feel like you are sleeping in a little tin can.

You can check out the room photos here:

I went on the Oasis of the Seas, the (second) largest cruise ship in the world. I'll post a full review on Cruise Critic by February.

We just went for the penang/port klang in december with RC. In penang, we hired own taxi and went to queensbay mall and ask the taxi driver to bring us to local market to eat. For KL, the distance from the port to KL city is about 1hr one way. So we signed up for the package tour for easy shopping near sungei wang area. The time spent on land is about 4-6hours so you wont have much time to really "explore". Best to decide beforehand where you want to hit & then consider the options available :)

The food on board is the only good thing in my opinion. I find that the ship was old, boring and there is no interesting activities except for the wall climbing.

The food is good, the ship is old. The pool is small. ...compared to star cruise virgo. The activities however is richer than star cruise.
