Hi,
Thinking of bringing kids to Malaysia during Jun holidays via the Tanjong Pagar Railway station....since it's closing by 1 Jul'11.

Anyone tried before? Safe? Any recommendation on where to go / stay? Only planning to do a 2D1N ..... just to let kids experience taking rail and see the TP station. Kids already 10 & 11, so quite easy to handle.

Cheers.

Um... that would mean you will have to come back by 1 Jul'11 :).

Jokes aside, that's a great idea. Last chance to sit on a piece of history.

Yes, a deliberate move so that the children will remember something in future.

Sad to say, if not for the fact that TP station is shutting down, the idea to take rail and visit it may never occur. Sometimes, people start to appreciate ONLY when they are about to lose it..........

There was a "Malaysia homestay" programme where Singaporeans can take the train up to different towns.
Could not find the website, maybe this map will help?

Map shot at KTMB station

We only went as far as Johor by rail.

The KTM to Singapore is still alive to 1 July 2011 for only one reason :

Under the British concession given to KTM to operate the railway, KTM must maintain the passenger service, else the rail land will have to be reverted to the Singapore government for FREE.

That is why die die they must run the rail using broken down train, long ago fully depreciated at no cost to KTM, except for the diesel cost....

So now that SG and MY have settled the issue, we all can go partake in history for getting onto the LAST train ride of history between SG and MY

we travelled from SIN TO KL in the day and back from SIN TO KL in the night.

It was a peaceful journey in the day...but wow...super rowdy at night...and the smell from the toilet is unbearable to me..(i am very sensitive to smells)

But it was a few years back...hopefully things have changed
