2009 Term 2 School Holiday Ideas

School terms keep kids in school and parents sane. Holidays can be boring to kids if they are left alone. Discuss vacation ideas and how to make good use of the free time for both children and adults.

2009 Term 2 School Holiday Ideas

Postby ChiefKiasu » Sat Mar 21, 2009 9:32 pm

Yeah, just as you are settling back wondering why you are so much more relaxed in the past week, the March holidays are over. Time to get back to the grind (and prepare for SA1 :P )

Anyway, the next holidays to look forward to are the long June holidays. Now's the right time to start planning for it if you are thinking of something good and effective.

Not so sure if sec school students need to go back to school usually during June holiday, want to plan now also find it difficult. Find it difficult to book budget airfare whenever there is a promotion cos need to pay up when you book. Any suggestion ?

Short Trip

Postby buds » Mon Mar 23, 2009 10:06 am

Heyya Chief,

Ya, thanks for the reminder!
I just told my girl today while we
were waiting for the transport that
we have to start preps for SA1. She
asked me - when? I replied - today!
After school, and homework if any..
we'll carry on with assessments that
they have totally done without the last
one week of hols and also read up earlier
topics from the school textbooks and workbooks.
What a first day back to school bummer, aye?

Niwae, just to share the best short trip the kiddies
remember is our trip to Phuket. The picture used
for my avatar was taken from one of the clean and
clear beaches of one of the Khai Islands. We stayed
at the kids heaven resort called Ramada Resort Karon
Beach, Phuket. The kids club was a dream come true
for them. They couldn't wait to go there everyday! What
with daily supply of slushies, popcorn and ice-cream and
a fantastic team of minders to play with them - they were
sad to leave. And the rooms for kiddies were themed. Their
choice? Princess rooms, of course!

Food was great and widely available.
People were friendly everywhere and
mostly clean. Even for our muslim friends
not to worry, halal restaurants aplenty there!

And don't miss out on Thai massage!

Yes, need to pay up all in advance upon booking.
Promotions for budget airlines/airfare are usually
within a time frame. We didn't manage to get the
1 cent back for our last trip as cued by our friends.
So, we couldnt get to go for our trip together as
initially planned. But we still got cheaper rates lah
if you compare with the big airlines.

Being a first timer on a budget airline, it was a little
back breaking and claustrophobic on the Tiger Airways.
And boy was i afraid it wud crash. Twas windy and rainy
season during year ends... so it was kinda scary. We did
wonder if the smaller budget aircraft cud withstand the
strong winds compared to the airbus! Hahahahaaa! But
not fair to make comparison when we pay so little. Pls
remember to take travel insurance - Tiger Airways came
with one called Tiger Purrtection.

All was safe and sound, thankfully... and we had a blast
of a trip on a tsunami hit island which has now picked up
the pieces and recovered.

Definitely a visit-again place. But mebbe this time we'll
go SQ. Hehee.. or at least Silk Air lah.

Umm... are you concerned about tsunamis or getting shut out of the airport?

Try a self-drive holiday in Perth or Brisbane. Stay in motels. Go roo patting/koala hugging/theme parks/white sandy beaches.

With young ones, a self drive holiday allows you the option of taking it real slow..unlike group tours...

Provided of course, at least 1 spouse drives while the other navigates not nags.

When my kids were young, we used to take them on 3-week long holidays; Enjoyable and beautiful memories to look back on now that they're too busy with school and we're unable to go on long vacations together.
