Fu San Dim Sum near Excelsior Hotel. Closed on every Tue. Try to go early to get a (better) table even tho it has 2 floors. Popular stuff sold out by late a.m. even on weekdays. Be prepared for v bz staff though.
I love to tabao its ma la gao from take-away counter after that.
Else there is a Ming Court opposite it & another 1 round Ming's corner on its right for more personalised service.

Cross a major road to Fu San's left & u can get ur pomelo (must buy!), local produce shops, salted chicken, bean sprout chicken, soya beancurd (i find it so so after a few times but its soya bean milk is still v good (open at 10.30am sharp & immediately a Q is formed).

Although many local produce shops have these but we prefer ma sa ki (sweet sticky snack that is softer than other brands tried) & heong piah from a white mobile van parked next to bean sprout chicken at nite & outside Fu San in early a.m.

There's also zi char - e..g crabs in the old town.

Oh, get ur scratch-&-use parking coupons from convenience store once u see 1 in town.

We usually stay at 3star Regalodge. Cheap & good for a nite pit stop but no connecting rooms. Lobby just renovated last Dec..not sure if they will reno the rooms. Next to it is higher class Tower Regency. There's Impiana but slightly out of the town & of cos, Excelsior in the thick of actions.

From Ipoh, can go to Cameron Highland, Pangkor Island, Penang etc...within 2-3 hrs.
