It is never easy to travel with kids, no wonder some say holiday trips can be "suffering, or back breaking" with kids.
For us, we lower our expectations, cut down that romantic candlelight dinner, and always have a plan "B".
Ensure your itinerary is flexible, so that you can still enjoy, and no need to rush from point to point.

Personally, we prefer free & easy for us, we hate it when everyone on the bus is waiting for us !
We can take our own sweet time to savour the sights/ food/ culture.

Do drop by our travel itinerary in Apac (Krabi, Taiwan and Malaysia roadtrips are recommended)

From young, our four kids have been traveling with us. Although our budget cannot fly us to Europe and US,
they had no lack of fun when we travel in Asia.

The No1 tip for parents who are travelling first time with kids, go try our bus and MRT first :p
(please remember to leave the car and maid at home)

Just avoid the monsoon season (rain whole days)
Buy loaves of bread and banana to feed the hungry fishes (it is never enough)

cheers.

we usually go free and easy too. lots of freedom but also a tiring thing when you have to drive (long hours + left side driving + unfamilar road + gps not that reliable cos sometimes routes are longer and worse burst tyre in the middle of nowhere :faint: ).

we are going to beijing in nov and definitely joining a tour group. we dont like the driving manners in china and dh wants a break from planning.

we are so used to f&e, hope we can have a good time going on a packaged tour.

Agree with all. Free and Easy with kids are best. In fact, the first time we went on a long trip with DD was when she was 3. We flew to Barcelona and took a 12 night Mediterranean and Egypt cruise from there. It worked out perfectly as the cruise had port days and cruise days. Cruise day are spent relaxing on board while we did day tours on port days. Also, so easy to get from room to restaurants for meals. Time is also flexible and afternoon naps possible. The best thing is there is no packing and unpacking and you don't have to worry about forgetting anything. With a ship doctor on board, don't even have to worry abt kid falling sick. I strongly recommend cruises for families with toddlers.
