Hi, had signed up last week for this 1-for-1 promotion with Chan Brothers (through its affiliated agency, Asia Global Vacation), to view peach blossoms in Tokyo in early April.

According to the person, need 15 people in the group before the tour will take place. However, to date, after NATAS, still only about 10 people for the date 5th Apr to 10 Apr.

Just wanted to introduce to people here, it's a pretty cool deal, flying off on night of 5th Apr (945pm, so no need to take leave), and 6th Apr (Fri) is Good Friday. Will reach back on 10th April at 6am (touch-down), so theoretically speaking, you only need to take 9th April (Monday) leave. In short, the trip maximises the amount of time you get in Tokyo.

Fly by ANA, hotel is New Otani or equivalent. And it includes tour package, bringing you to Mt Fuji, etc. For me and wife, definitely an easy way to be orientated to Japan (since we don't speak the language), and are too busy to do homework, and with pending Primary school-going kids, just wanted a no-frills getaway.

2019 is going to be expensive to travel to Tokyo with the Olympics.

Don't think the Olympics will significantly impact the prices lah...
If Tokyo is getting more expensive due to the Olympics, maybe the other islands like Kyushu or Okinawa will be cheaper?

If Tokyo is getting more expensive due to the Olympics, maybe the other islands like Kyushu or Okinawa will be cheaper?

I’m taking reference fr the olympics in Sydney. The prices soared & my uncle’s family warned us before-hand & advised that we stay with his family whilst ano cousin went to stay with ano uncle not far. Indeed, the hotel prices was steep & we were thankful for family ties.

In Japan, we were initially planning to visit our frd again after this year’s cherry blossom but DH suggested we head for Hokkaido instead later part of the year coz our good frd may be busy & moreover we won’t dream of staying with the family unless they invite coz most Jap homes are not as spacious.

If indeed Tokyo does not attract special Olympic tourist prices then its a ‘windfall’?

Don't get me wrong. Tokyo will definitely get more expensive during the Olympic period. Given the number of visitors, hotels / F&B will be at capacity, and the streets will be very crowded as well. However, given that the Olympics only run from 24 July to 9 August, prices wouldn't be significantly impacted for the rest of the year (expect price to climb up sharply a week before the official opening, and hold steady till the 2nd week of the games). If you are heading for the later part of the year, the euphoria would have been over and prices back to normal.
