Hi HI!

Looking for advise for the experts here...

Will be transiting in Zurich with hb before we head for Hamburg Germany for his work trip in Sept. So we only have abt 4days in Zurich... Switzerland is one of my must go places and we can only explore 1 tiny area for 4days, what are the recommendation that are
Must SEE?
Must EAT?
Must DO/Try?

I have research abit here and there while trying to piece up and still blur where to base (Lucern/Zurich)? And how do we handle our bulky luggages?

They are :
Lake Zurich
Lindt Chocolate Factory Outlet
Rhine Falls
Luzern
Lake Luzern
Mt Pilatus/Mt Titus
Interlaken
Jungfrouch
Grindewald
Bern - what to see/do here?
Zermatt - don't think we can do this due to time constraint...

if 4 days cannot do all these, then what are the best/must go?

:thankyou: in advance!

Not an expert. Just sharing. Here's what I would do:

Based in Lucern and do day trips.

1 day
Rhine Falls, Schaffhausen, Lindt choco factory, zurich city

1 day
Mt Pilatus, Glasi Factory combine with a boat ride on lake Luzern (to Alpnachstad) or
Mt Rigi combine with boat ride on lake Lucern (to Vitnau)

1 day
Mt Titlis, Engelberg. Probably won't take u the whole day, so u hv some time to explore Lucern city as well.

1 day
Lake Thun, Thun Castle, Ballenberg Open Musuem, Brienz

Train ride from Lucern to Intelaken takes abt 2 hrs on the Golden Line. From there, via Grindelwald to Jungfraujoch will take another 2hours. Even with longer day light, it's a very long trip to make. A full price train tic from Grindelwald to Jungfraujoch costs abt CHF180.

I think Switzerland is a beautiful country to be enjoyed at leisure. Dun rush to cover places. JMHO.

Hi bebebub
Thanks for advise. Yes this is a beautiful country and hb don't like to rush, but I am just TOO excited... :boogie:

what abt Stanserhorn, the one that dolphinsiah shared the pic earlier... want to reconfirm its near to Lucern rite? but its nearer to Mt Pilatus or Mt Titlis? thanks.
Due to time constraint I think will have to decide between
1)Lucern /Mt Pilatus /Mt Titlis OR
2)Intelaken( takes abt 2 hrs on the Golden Line. From there, via Grindelwald to Jungfraujoch )

also last qtn....
Railpasses...
a) do u buy from http://www.raileurope.com.sg or
b) online direct fm the Swiss Rail station?
c) for my trip I think a 3day Swiss Pass is good to go or the 'Half' Pass??

:thankyou:

and :lovesite:

Hi Mummy Tang,

Just to share with you what I did for my 1 week in Switzerland.

We based ourselves in Interlaken Ost ,to take advantage of the Jungfrau VIP tickets . Which covers most of the Alps within the Oberland region.

Do bear in mind that Switzerland is 80% surrounded by Alps.
Each Alps is beautiful .
But the weather on top the Alps is very unpredictable .
Train tickets to the Alps are very expensive, you will be disappointed if you reach the Alps and you are surrounded by Fog. And is a waste of money.

Since you have only 4 days base in an area Interlaken or Zermatt.

Interlaken is surrounded by the famous Jungfrau(Top of the Europe).
But there are also nice mountain areas worth to visit like the First(My Favourite).

For us , each day before we set out , we always check the weather of the Alps.

Happy Planning! :xedfingers:

Happy Planning.

Hi Mummy Tang,

A very good point by Dolphinsiah. Weather in the Alps are indeed unpredictable. If Jungfraujoch is a must-see for you, then u may want to consider moving your base nearer to Jungfraujoch. That way, you can check the weather and plan accordingly. Train tic aside, it's the 4-5hrs each way that you will need to travel, from Lucern. The weather at the top may change by the time u travel from Lucern to Grindelwald.

If you move nearer to Jungfraujoch, you may hv to forego Rhine Falls and Schaffhausen, unless you hv a few hours to spare b4 your flight out from Zurich.

I will be getting my rail pass direct from the train station when I arrive.

In order to make the most out of their (expensive) rail passes, gotta do a fair bit of homework. U need to somewhat hv an idea where u want to go in order to decide. You can get all the necessary infor on sbb.ch. If u hv specific questions, you can email them. I was very impressed with their prompt response.

Happy planning!

Is Jungfrau a must see in Switzerland? If not, what else in Lucerne is worth to go?

Mt Titlis n Mt Pilatus is nearer to Lucerne. Jungfraujoch is nearer to Intelaken in the Bernese Oberland.

Besides the mountains, a boat ride on Lake Lucerne (depending on the season n how much time u hv) is worth the time if u hv not been. The landscape changes as the boat goes further away from Lucerne city. U can hop off the boat to explore any lakeside village that u fancy.

From Lucerne, one can take a train to Schaffhausen (a very picturesque town, n where IWC 'Musuem' is) via Zurich n make a slight detour to visit the Rhine Falls.

Basel is abt an hour away from Lucerne.

I'm not quite a shopper, but Lucerne old town is full of shopping streets.

There are quite a few musuems in Lucerne. If you hv kids along, can check out Kambly biscuit factory or the Glass factory/Musuem at Hergiswil.

Hope this helps

not sure do they still have the golden pass from Lucerne - cruise the lake, take the incline railway to pilatus (?), ride the cable car, take the bus - back to lucrne zentral
