Travel: Australia - Perth

School terms keep kids in school and parents sane. Holidays can be boring to kids if they are left alone. Discuss vacation ideas and how to make good use of the free time for both children and adults.

Hi
First time going to Perth in November and need some help on planning a day trip out to Fremantle.
From Perth CBD area, what is the best way to go to Fremantle? By train or cruise from the jetty?
Anyone can help direct me to the train timetable and cruise timetable?
Thanks.

The best way would no doubt be driving. You may want to check out that option, especially if you are traveling as a family.

While the most relax way may be cruising, the emphasis would be on 'cruising' and not 'touring'. You may have limited time at Fremantle as a result.

If you are depending on public transport, the train from Perth to Fremantle would be a straightforward option. You can refer to the schedule provided here. It takes about an hour, and the trains run on time and are fairly comfortable.

For more info on train, ferry and bus, you can refer to transperth website.

But if driving, be careful not to speed.

And also, be careful about parking. They are very ON...

Agree. They're very strict & very vigilant. On long roads, we don't even know where they come from issuing us speeding tickets.

Also, ensure your kids hv appropriate age toddler car seats or boosters. You can bring one along. My Perth frd brought us one so we save the trouble using one fr car rental companies.

Nov is beginning of summer & safe to bring whatever u'll wear in Spore.

Careful not to go in mid-Dec as that's when all the hotels will be swarmed & even caravan parks will be full. Australians will drive long journey inbound in their trailers. Hence, accommodations are costlier too.

If u're game for it, and yr kids are not toddlers, yr family might like to do some crabbing (late Oct or early Nov) or abalone hunting (not sure when season start or end coz I did that some >20 years ago & frds got the license for us). Crabbing can be fun with nets but careful where the crabs come. Try not to hurl together coz if u miss catching the crab, it goes sideways & may clip your frd standing next to you. A frd got clipped on her toes bleeding. :siam:
