Travel: Japan - General

School terms keep kids in school and parents sane. Holidays can be boring to kids if they are left alone. Discuss vacation ideas and how to make good use of the free time for both children and adults.

My family’s heading to Kyoto in mid-Dec. I would like to stay 1N at a resonably prices ryokan that comes with ensuite bathroom and hot springs. Any suggestions?

bb_mom,

If u hv 1 or 2 nites there are plenty of very nice ryokans in Kinosakionsen. The entire place is very romantic at nite esp with traditions also stone bridges & willow trees over hanging the waters with koi fishes swimming in the waters. We stayed at a ryokan with Michelin award winning chef (can't rmbr name of place but is one street away near train station) who was very warm & portions were very generous. Check it out.

However, we visited Kyoto in autumn & did the romantic train, the Bamboo Groove & the rafting as a family. It was great fun. Don't think winter can do any rafting tho.

Hope you hv a great holiday!

son told me he had a good sleep on shinkasen going to chubu. then on a bus ride, he slept again.
it's colder in Tokyo than Taiki where he is now.
the food on the whole is very healthy (ie no taste) and there is soya sauce provided for every meal. the tempura prawns look extremely crispy but when he bit on it, he couldn't taste the prawn...after dipping in soya sauce, they end up feeling thirsty all the time. he is yearning to try McDonald's Mcpork there.

Talk about saving ¥, got this set of Cherry Blossom promo from Klook. Promo valid till 30 April 2018:
Take $18 off a min spend of $300. After which, you'll get another email with a code for $18 off which you can use but the min spend is $150 this time round. This gives you a total of $36 off $450.

They are nothing like Groupon (and that’s in a good way). More like Expedia - minus the hotel and air fares.

Klook is an online travel agency headquartered in Hong Kong (with a sales office in Singapore I’m told). They sell standard travel products (e.g. day tours) or entrance tickets. In the past, travel agents may package these items together (often procure at travel agents’ prices) and sell it as a package (but Klook does it a little differently). They are definitely safe to book - I’ve used them a couple of times and have saved me a few bucks each time.
